BLOOD DONATION PROCESS:

Your blood donation will always be appreciated!


A single blood donation can save up to four lives.

It happens because the blood bag is divided into blood components: red blood cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitate. Each of them has a specific use.


The entire blood donation process will often take about 1 hour, but the time may vary depending on the number of donors that will be there at the time.


The blood donation process has the phases below: 


  • Complete a form (you have to be honest on this occasion);

  • Registration at the Blood Donation Bank;

  • Measuring vital signs; 

  • Screening process;

  • Blood sampling; 

  • After the blood donation, you must eat a snack given by the blood donation bank. 


Orientation: It’s not necessary to take a blood test before donating because in the blood donation bank you will be submitted to a screening process that will inform you if you are able or not.



BLOOD DONATION REQUIREMENTS:



  • Being in a good health condition;


  • Not having tested positive for COVID-19 and Dengue in the last 30 days;


  • Not being with flu, colds and fever in the last 2 weeks (after the ending of the symptoms);


  • Being between 16 and 69 years old (remembering that underage people must be accompanied by a guardian;


  • The limit of age for the first donation is 60 years, 11 months and 29 days;


  • Weigh at least 51 kg or more (have a BMI greater than or equal to 18.5);


  • Official photo ID;


  • Get at least eight hours of sleep the night before your appointment;


  • Being well fed;


  • Drink a lot of water (we suggest of 2-4 glass of water before donating);


  • Don’t drink alcoholic drinks at least 12 hours before;


  • Not having smoked 2 hours before;


  • Avoid fatty foods before donating.




TEMPORARY IMPEDIMENT:


  • Pregnancy; 


  • Breastfeeding (even 1 year after childbirth); 


  • 90 days after normal delivery and 180 days after caesarean section;


  • Tattooing, permanent make-up, micropigmentation: wait 6 to 12 months after the procedure (The period decreases to 6 months if the potential donor presents a photo of the studio's registration with the Health Surveillance Agency and an invoice from the establishment;);


  • Piercing: please wait 1 year;


  • If you receive Botox or hyaluronic acid fillers,you need to wait 7 days after the procedure;


  • Acupuncture with disposable material: wait 24 hours (Acupuncture with laser or seeds can be donated);


  • Flu or cold: please wait 15 days after the end of symptoms; 


  • If you are positive for COVID-19, wait 30 days after the symptoms have completely healed;


  • Labial or genital herpes can only be donated after the lesion has completely dried up and healed; 


  • For any endoscopy procedure, please wait 6 months; 


  • If you did a tooth extraction or root canal, please wait 7 days; 


  • If you had a Dental surgery under general anesthesia, please wait 5 weeks;


  • Classical dengue: please wait 30 days after being healed;


  • Dengue hemorrhagic fever: please wait 6 months after cure;


  • Diseases that need to wait 6 months for blood donation: 

Iron deficiency anemia or other nutritional deficiencies; Acute viral encephalitis; Yellow fever; Shingles; Meningitis; Mononucleosis; Acute pancreatitis; Pleuritis; Pneumonia requiring hospitalization; Benign teratoma; Tetanus; Deep vein thrombosis;


  • Diseases that need to wait for total cure or crisis control:

Arthrosis; Tonsillitis; Mild asthma; Chickenpox; Mumps; Cystitis; Pilonidal cyst; Cytomegalovirus; Conjunctivitis; Diarrhea; Respiratory diseases; Endometriosis; Enterovirosis; Erysipelas; Yellow fever; Fracture without surgery; Furunculosis; Acute Gastritis; Gastroenteritis; Urinary Tract Infection; Meningitis; Mononucleosis; Otitis; Gallstones and Kidney Stones; Pleuritis; Rhinitis; Sinusitis; Tendonitis; Head Trauma; Trichomoniasis; Urethritis; Vaginitis and Varicose Veins.





DEFINITIVE IMPEDIMENT:



  • Illicit drugs;


  • Some medications prevent blood donation (always ask a doctor or a pharmacist for advice); 


  • Piercings in the oral cavity and genitals;


  • People who have had hepatitis after the age of 11;


  • Sexually transmitted diseases or at risk of having them in the last 12 months;


  • Hepatitis B and C, AIDS (HIV virus);


  • Diseases linked to the HTLV I and II virus;


  • Syphilis;


  • Chagas disease;


  • Malaria;


  • Parkinson's disease;


  • Monkeypox;


  • If you have had any type of cancer, including leukemia;


  • Severe cardiovascular disease (e.g. coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack, severe arrhythmia, heart malformations, heart failure, aneurysms, etc.);


  • Autoimmune disease (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, immune thyroiditis such as Graves' disease, Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, etc.); 


  • Diabetes type I and II;



Other diseases with Definitive Impediment:


Intracranial aneurysm; History of stroke; Rheumatoid arthritis; Severe asthma; Babesiosis; Bronchitis; Liver cirrhosis; Acquired and hereditary coagulopathy; Ulcerative colitis; Chagas disease; Creustzfeldt Jakob disease (mad cow); Crohn's disease; Guillain-Barret disease; Congenital or acquired hemorrhagic disease; Severe lung disease; Chronic kidney disease; Neurological disease; Elephantiasis; Hepatic or hepatosplenic schistosomiasis; Schizophrenia; Esophageal stenosis; Rheumatic fever; Pheochromocytoma; Leprosy; Hyperaldosteronism; Pituitary hyperfunction; Hypopituarism; Adrenal insufficiency; Cushing's syndrome; Malaria; Quartan fever; Congenital bone malformation; Interstitial or hypersensitivity pneumonitis; Porphyria; Ulcerative colitis; Polycystic kidneys; Ehlers Danlos syndrome; Nephrotic syndrome; Malignant teratoma; Corneal transplantation; Pulmonary thromboembolism; Extrapulmonary tuberculosis; Congenital or acquired valve disease.




WAITING PERIOD FOR BLOOD DONATIONS AFTER VACCINATIONS:


After 4 weeks:


  • Dengue vaccine.


After 7 days:


  • AstraZeneca; Oxford; Fiocruz; Pfizer; BioNtec; Fosun Pharma; Sputinik V; Janssen-Cilag; Moderna; National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Gamaleya National Center.


After 48 hours:


  • Coronavac; Sinovac/Butantan; Bharat Biotech; Covaxin; Flu vaccine.




INTERVAL FOR DONATIONS:


Men: 60 days (maximum of 04 donations in 1 year). 


Women: 90 days (maximum of 03 donations in 1 year).
